Here turn left and follow the track up towards the Marbella to Istán road. Views now open out towards the western flank of La Concha. Looping hard left you reach the A7176 (1hr 5min). Turn left towards Istán then after 30m cut right at a sign Istán and a second one Ermita de San Miguel. Some 25m in from the road you reach a fork. Here cut right then angle left up a path to visit the Ermita de San Miguel. Here cut right past a signboard about La Tomillería then climb up through a terraced picnic area to a junction with a broad track.

La Tomillería is a country festivity at the end of September in honour of the patron saint of Istán, San Miguel. The festival takes its name – literally ‘the thyme festivity’ – from the thyme which grows along the paths leading to the chapel.
